LONI (Ghaziabad): A 40-year-old contractor of the Loni City board was shot dead around 6.15pm on Monday.
A large crowd gathered near his residence, after the shooting, and demanded that the culprits be arrested immediately.
Senior superintendent of police Dharmendra Kumar said, "An ample police force has been deployed at the spot, and the situation is under control.
We will crack the case soon".
According to police sources, Kamal Pradhan, who had been the pradhan of the Rishi Market Colony area for five years, and was currently a contractor for the municipal board, had gone to a barber's shop in Balramnagar in the evening.
Around 6.15pm, two men arrived on motorcycles with pistols, barged into the shop and shot Pradhan twice in his head. They then rode away as stunned onlookers merely watched.
After the shooting, a large crowd gathered near Pradhan's house and shouted slogans demanding immediate action in the case. The crowd on the highway, outside the Rishi Market Colony, also stoned the police, and some shots were fired in the air. Police had to resort to a mild lathi charge to bring the situation under control, said police sources.
